Young Writers of AmericaCody is our published author for a student poetry contest we entered in December. An article about him is on our Lincoln Home Page. Two other students submitted poems and I think they are worthy of mention here on our class website!
Allison My Wonderful Family What my family means to me,
They are really important you will see, They are always nice, But they do hate mice, They're as awesome as can be, And their love to me is free. With three sisters, one brother, and two dogs, We don't need a pet hog. When we go hunting we hunt deer, That we find out in the clear. Sharya What My Family Means To Me What my family means to me In this poem you will see They are loving, kind, and caring And they don't smell like herring! Sometimes they're wild and silly But they're not like a hillbilly. We are a big family with dogs and cats As a family we wear many different hats. We laugh and joke to have fun In the summer we lay in the sun and run. Time CapsulesWe "buried" our time capsules today and after convincing the class that we were not really going to dig a hole, we threw them into the chest. They will remain there until May when we "reopen and dig up" our capsules to find what we di at the beginning of fourth grade!
Pig Race!Josh was our top seller for the fundraiser and got to "race our pig" in the pig race last Friday. We had lots of fun watching the pigs go!
Welcome! We want to welcome Nate and Emily to our classroom! They both started right after our Christmas break. We were sorry to see Aaron and Haley move.
Fourth GradeReading Calendars came home. Remember to be reading every night! Try for at least 120-140 minutes a week. That is only 20 minutes a night. You are welcome to check out a book from our classroom to read at home. Read, read, read! I am currently reading: "The Best Advice I Ever Got, Lessons from Extraordinary Lives" by Katie Couric I am also re-reading: "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis One of my all time favorites! Oregon Trail RodeoCheck out the slideshow on the rodeo above. We started with a special guest speaker, and then went into the arena to move around stations. The cowboys talked to us and told us about the events. It was a great morning! It was hot and humid, but the class listened well and learned a lot.
My favorite sayings!"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give to our children. One is roots; the other wings." (Hodding Carter)
"Children reinvent your world for you." (Susan Sarandon)
"Wherever you are, it is your own friends who make your world." William James "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Unknown "Education is noisy. Only plants grow silently." Unknown "The knowledge that you have emerged wiser and stronger from setbacks means that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive. You will truly never know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, intil both have been tested by adversity. Such knowledge is a true gift . . . . It is painfully won, and it has been worth more to me than any qualification I ever earned." J.K. Rowling's 2008 Harvard commencement address Meet My Family! This is my family. Kirk is on the left. He is going to UNL to pursue a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition. This next year he needs to take some chemistry classes before he attends graduate school. Kelli is my daughter-in-law and she and my son Zach live in San Antonio, Texas. They are both CPA's, and work for different firms there. Kelli grew up there. They have been married 2 years this October. The other two members of our family are not in this picture. They are both Shih Tszu dogs. Elway is Zach and Kelli's and he is 3 months old. Gabby is my dog and she turned 12 this year!
100 YearsOne hundred years from now it will not matter~
What kind of car I drove, What kind of house I lived in, How much money I had. But the world may be different Because I was important in the life of a CHILD |
